Fort Hood Warrior in Transition Barracks
Design Consultants:Architect/Engineer-Michael Baker Jr., Inc.
A challenge after award involved existing occupied temporary trailers which contained the warrior in transition housing and administrative support functions. Additional time was needed by the installation to relocate these facilities. Sundt was able to successfully rephrase the schedule to avoid multiple moves for the recovering soldiers while not delaying the project schedule.
This design-build project is a five-story, 192,723-square-foot building which houses 320 personnel. The barracks consists of 160 apartments. The units are a mixture of two-bedroom, two-bathroom and two-bedroom, one-bathroom modules. Each unit includes a living area and kitchen. At the central core, the design includes a prominent main entrance, lobby, elevator and multi-purpose room.
