Project Overview

This was a new 87,250-square-foot, three-level classroom building for the Sweetwater Union High School District. In addition to new classroom space, the facility includes administrative offices, a library, theater and other support spaces.

Sundt provided extensive value engineering services for this project. Our initial milestone estimate reflected a project value of $36 million, significantly more than the district’s budget of $30.5 million. To close the cost differential, Sundt, in coordination with the design team, conducted an extensive value engineering effort. We focused on maintaining the desired architectural objectives while implementing more cost effective materials, systems and methods.

Throughout the construction phase, Sundt co-located on site with the owner’s representative, inspector and architect. To enhance collaboration, quality, preplanning and schedule assurance, Sundt created a building information model (BIM) from the designer’s 2D CAD drawings.
