Project Overview

South Alamo Street is the connection between the Riverwalk, historic La Villita Village, the future Hemisfair Civic Park, Yanaguana Garden, Henry B. González Convention Center, Tower of the Americas, and multiple hotels. This project will enhance the pedestrian experience allowing safe travel to these surrounding San Antonio gems through lower vehicle speeds, multiple crossings, wider sidewalks, and lighting.

Some of the street improvements at South Alamo Street (from Market Street to Cesar Chavez Boulevard) will include roadway reconstruction, drainage, traffic signals, pedestrian lighting and landscaping as well as upgrades to San Antonio Water System (SAWS) water, sewer and chilled water mains and City Public Service (CPS) gas and roadway lighting.

The construction plan and schedule accounted for utility constraints and challenges, including an existing chilled water line (CW) in the same alignment as the planned new sanitary sewer line. The new CW must be relocated and activated before the north half of the sewer is installed. To accomplish this, a temporary line will be buried through sections or moved throughout the phasing to accommodate traffic flow. Sundt is using our expertise in preconstruction services and relationships with area utility companies to collaborate with the City of San Antonio, the developer, and utility companies to ensure a smooth changeover with utilities.
