Project Overview

Sundt constructed aquatic centers at the district’s Granite Hills High School, West Hills High School, and Steele Canyon High School. Prior to the completion of this project, the district’s swimming, diving and water polo teams had to practice and compete at off-campus pools.

Granite Hills has a 50-meter pool with 19 lanes plus six basketball courts and 12 tennis courts. The other two schools have 25-meter pools containing 10 lanes each. All three aquatic centers are equipped with bleachers, diving boards, state-of-the-art timing equipment, scoreboards, and a pool building that houses the mechanical room, restrooms, lockers, offices, team rooms, storage rooms and a snack bar.

Each aquatic center was constructed on an occupied campus adjacent to students, faculty and parents, therefore, maintaining public safety was our primary challenge. To ensure safety, we coordinated on a daily basis with the schools’ on-site facilities manager, installed wayfinding signage to isolate students and faculty from construction activity, and required each subcontractor to walk every delivery in and out of the project site. Through effective preplanning and daily communication, we enabled all campus operations to run smoothly during construction.
