Project Overview

Sundt constructed a new parking garage for Scripps Mercy Hospital in a densely populated area between an existing parking garage, a residential area and a protected floral canyon that sloped away from the street. The parking garage was five levels—two floors below street, one at street level and two levels above the street.

The project team overcame multiple project challenges including very limited access to the site, a building located on the property line and noise controls in the nearby residential area that limited construction hours. Extra care was taken to protect the canyon and to prevent damage to the existing flora and fauna.

Prior to starting excavation and shoring of the basement we relocated existing 12 KV overhead electric line to underground. Sundt also self-performed all of the concrete work, which included drilled caissons, foundations, cast-in-place shear walls, cast-in-place columns and a long span post tension beam and deck system.
