Sundt Starts Next Segment on San Pedro Creek

 |  Civil & Transportation, Press Release

SAN ANTONIO (April 17, 2020) – Sundt Construction has started work on a new segment of San Pedro Creek in San Antonio. The transformation of the creek into a work class linear park began in 2017. The project for the San Antonio River Authority is spread over multiple phases.

“Sundt is committed to improving the lives of those within our communities,” said Chad Yount, Sundt’s South and Central Texas area manager for the Transportation Group. “We are able to turn a project that focuses on flood control and make it a community park that everyone can enjoy.”

The new segment of work includes continued excavation, installation of utilities and walls to create an envelope of the park and complement the new federal courthouse in development.

Meanwhile, Sundt is continuing to build three components of the park that are scheduled to be complete in 2021: a performance plaza adjacent to Alameda Theater, additional greenspace and a five-piece mural behind the Spanish Governor’s Palace. In addition, the team is installing underground utilities, finishing creek walls and other infrastructure improvements.

The initial segment of phase one of the San Pedro Creek Culture Park was completed in time for the City of San Antonio’s 300th anniversary on May 5, 2018. Sundt worked against an aggressive schedule to finish the phase, which included reconstructing a half-mile of the existing creek into a world-class urban linear park. This flood control project removed land and structures from the 100-year-old floodplain by widening and lowering the creek.

As work continues during these unprecedented times, Sundt remains committed to the health and safety of our people and our communities. The social distancing, hygiene and sanitation protocols being practiced on our jobsites align with recommendations from the CDC and other public health officials.

In Texas, Sundt has 50 years and nearly $3 billion of project experience, with offices in San Antonio, Fort Worth, Irving and El Paso. The company is currently busy in the downtown San Antonio area working on the San Pedro Creek Improvements, Canopy by Hilton Downtown San Antonio and the CPS Energy Headquarters renovations.
