Sundt employee pass check to Ukandu

Portland, Oregon (July, Date, 2023) – The Sundt Foundation recently awarded $15,000 to two charities in the Northwest that provide resources and support for disadvantaged children.

A check for $7,500 was given to Gilbert House Children’s Museum in Salem, Oregon. The grant will be used to help construct Priority: Play – Outdoor Discovery Area, an accessible playscape designed to engage children in intellectual, emotional and physical interactive play using applications of math, science and engineering in an outdoor setting. This new space will replace the 23-year-old play structure with six new outdoor exhibits and enhance existing areas. The renovations will add new safety features and provide accommodations for children or adults with disabilities or physical impairments.

UKANDU in Portland was also given $7,500. This organization offers camp programming for families battling childhood and adolescent cancer in Oregon. UKANDU aims to provide activities that support the mental and emotional health of children with cancer who may be missing out on formative childhood experiences due to their diagnosis. Children with cancer and their siblings are invited to participate in these camps. The grant funds will go directly towards camp programming, which can then be provided to families 100% free of charge.

The Sundt Foundation awards quarterly grants to local Northwest charities that support disadvantaged children and families. Nonprofits are selected through an application and review process led by a committee of local Sundt employee-owners.
