PHOENIX (June 7, 2017) – Sundt Construction, Inc.’s (www.sundt.com) employees selected 25 Phoenix-area nonprofits to receive first-quarter grants from the Sundt Foundation. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt employees.
$5,000 Grant Recipients
Arizona Brainfood provide backpacks filled with food for Mesa schoolchildren who have little or no food to eat during the weekends.
Stepping Stones of Hope helps support children in their experience of grief. The organization’s programs are designed for grieving children and teenagers, and adult programs provide opportunities for adults to explore their grief and learn how to support the child’s loss.
UMOM New Day Centers is the largest shelter for homeless families in Arizona. UMOM provides several programs and support services to help families meet basic needs and work toward permanent and affordable housing.
United Food Bank distributes 59,000 meals daily to feed hungry individuals and families in Arizona. The food bank operates food pantries, meal sites, mobile pantries, a backpack program and more.
Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation serves children in Yavapai County have been abused, neglected and abandoned.
Aid to Adoption of Special Kids (AASK) recruits, trains and supports families building relationships with children through adoption and foster care as well as training adults to serve as mentors.

Arizona YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women through its financial education program, young women’s forum, senior centers and women’s empowerment series.
Assistance League of East Valley works with community agencies and schools to help children and adults in need. Programs include scholarships, Operation School Bell to provide new clothing, shoes and hygiene kits to elementary-age schoolchildren and Assault Survivor Kits with new clothing items for victims of assault.
Back to School Clothing Drive provides 25,000 Arizona children each year with clean clothes, shoes and a backpack stocked with school supplies in an effort to break down barriers to early-childhood school and education success.
EMPACT – Suicide Prevention Center offers crisis and community behavioral health services to children, adults and families in Maricopa and Pinal Counties.
OCJ Kids hosts four events each year to support its mission of helping foster children and at-risk youth: Teen Career Development Fair, Overnight Cowboy Camp, Tools for Success Back to School Party and One Bright Star Christmas Experience. They also send volunteers to visit with children in group homes through their Fostering Connections program.
World Hunger Ecumenical Arizona Task Force (WHEAT) was founded in 1979 to address hunger and poverty. The goals of WHEAT are to provide tools and resources to understand the causes of hunger and poverty; empower individuals to become self-sustaining; advocate for policy changes to solve the causes of hunger issues and encourage individuals to become involved in anti-hunger activities.
$3,500 Grant Recipients
A New Leaf helps individuals on the path to independence by connecting them with resources including affordable housing solutions, behavioral health, foster care, counseling, financial literacy coaching and basic needs.
Phoenix Rescue Mission supports individuals struggling with homelessness, addiction and trauma by offering shelter through their emergency services program; support for women and children through the Changing Lives Center; counseling, education and support through its Addiction Recovery for Men program; training through its Vocational Development Program and more solutions to an independent life.

Hacienda Skilled Nursing Facility provides specialized medical care and social services for infants, children and young adults who are medically fragile or chronically ill, including those with developmental disabilities.
House of Refuge provides supportive services and transitional housing to homeless families.
Mercy Housing Southwest works to create stable, vibrant and healthy communities for families, seniors and individuals with special needs who lack the economic resources to access safe and quality housing.
$2,500 Grant Recipients
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale makes a difference in the lives of children through their youth development programs focused on the areas of health and life skills, fine and performing arts, character and leadership, education and career, teens and sports and fitness.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix offers affordable after-school and summer programs for children in grades K-12. Programs are devoted to academic success, character development, the arts and health and fitness.
Shoebox Ministry was founded to meet the personal hygiene needs of the homeless and working poor. Toiletry kits are distributed through agencies and shelters.
$2,000 Grant Recipient
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, giving them an experience that improves the quality of life for them and their family.
$1,200 Grant Recipient
Independence Plus, Inc. provides programming for adults with developmental disabilities, helping them reach maximum individual potential. The program focuses on independent living skills, communication skills, social skills, community awareness and more.
$1,000 Grant Recipients
Mission of Mercy provides primary healthcare and prescription medications to uninsured and underinsured individuals. The organization has six clinics across the Valley and has provided more than 200,000 patients visits.
Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services supports teens and adults with developmental and cognitive disabilities through day programs, vocational and employment services program and a youth program.
