Sundt Foundation Awards $55,500 to Local Phoenix Nonprofits

TEMPE, Ariz. (April 20, 2016) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Phoenix employees have selected 24 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $55,500 for this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $7 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here’s a closer look at the Phoenix organizations that recently received funding.

5,000 Grant Recipient

United Food Bank, Mesa provides access to nutritious food through community partnerships, food distribution and education in the East Valley and Eastern Arizona.

$4,000 Grant Recipient

Society of St. Vincent de Paul will use the funds to offering person-to-person service, including intervention, consultation, or in-kind service, to those who are needy and suffering.

UMOM New Day Centers, Inc. is the largest shelter for homeless families in Arizona. It will use the funds to support its efforts in preventing and ending homelessness with innovative strategies and housing solutions designed to meet the unique needs of all families and individuals.

Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) is an internationally recognized organization dedicated to autism research, education, evidence-based treatment and community outreach.

Sojourner Center provides multicultural services to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence in Arizona, while also collaborating with the global community on education, research and advocacy to end domestic violence.

Chandler Christian Community Center (CCCC) will use the funds to help achieve its goal of changing lives by nourishing minds and bodies to create a connected, thriving community through its food bank, Family Resource Center, Community Action Program, Senior Centers and more.

Arizona’s Children Association is one of the oldest and largest not-for-profit child welfare and behavioral health agencies in Arizona. It will use the funds to support its many services, such as foster care and adoption, behavioral health and trauma/crisis response, family preservation and reunification, kinship services, parenting education and transitional living services.

Best Buddies Arizona offers One-to-One Friendship and Leadership Development programs, which positively impact nearly 27,700 individuals with and without disabilities in Arizona.

Community Alliance Against Family Abuse (CAAFA) is a domestic violence service provider that empowers individuals, families and communities to be free from abuse through collaboration, prevention, awareness and support.

Gompers Habilitation Center will use the funds to support its mission of developing innovative opportunities and programs for people with disabilities.

Mercy Housing Southwest provides safe, affordable housing to more than 1,174 low- to moderate-income families, seniors and people with special needs. In addition to operating 13 properties throughout Arizona and Utah, Mercy Housing Southwest also offers services and programs that give residents a stable foundation to achieve their dreams

Teen Lifeline strives to end teen suicide, to provide a “connection of hope” to teens in crisis and to empower youth to make healthy decisions through its hoteline, peer to peer conversations, and its Community Education and Outreach program.

World Hunger Ecumenical Arizona Task Force, Inc, also known as WHEAT (World Hunger Education, Adavocacy & Training), the organization will use the funds to educate, advocate, motivate and empower individuals to take action in the fight against hunger and poverty.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ) is the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network and makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. The funds will help to provide Arizona youth facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better.

Patrick Peterson Foundation for Success will use the funds to provide low-income and inner city youth with opportunities and resources to help them reach their full potential.

Tempe Community Council brings together the community, including government, nonprofits, faith groups and residents, to provide support to Tempeans in need, plan for present and future needs and build a lasting foundation for future generations.

UPWARD For Children & Families helps children with special needs achieve their highest potential, while empowering their families to thrive.

Chrysalis Academy Parent Association (CAPA) will use the funds to support Chrysalis Academy, an Arizona Department of Education-approved private day school for individuals on the autism spectrum.

Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona is a nonprofit organization that brings the healing powers of the creative arts to abused, neglected and homeless children by partnering with more than 100 foster care group homes, treatment centers and shelters in Maricopa County.

Indpendence Plus, Inc. provides exceptional service programs to adults with developmental disabilities, helping them achieve their maximum individual potential.

Phoenix Community ToolBank will use the funds to strengthen their tool-lending program, which gives not-for-profit organizations year-round access to the ToolBank’s inventory of tools and equipment for a nominal fee. ToolBank tools are inexpensive, convenient and fully functional, maximizing agencies’ financial and human resources while empowering them to improve community engagement and achieve greater impact for those they serve.

Defenders of Children will use the funds to assist the staff inemploying their resources to ensure that abused children receive the protections and rights to which they are entitled.

Streetlight USA is the largest residential center in the country specializing in the healing of child sex trafficking and sexual trauma victims ages 11-17.

United Sound, Inc. will use the funds to support its mission of providing musical performance experiences to students with special needs.
