Yvette Monreal_PhotoSundt is committed to hiring a diverse workforce and we are continually looking for chances to employ the industry’s best people and introduce others to exciting opportunities in construction. We are proud to feature a series in our blog and on social media that provides insights into accomplishments made by our company’s veterans and women while highlighting successful careers and opportunities. We’re proud of our diverse culture and thankful for each employee-owner’s contributions. Please follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter as we celebrate the things that make Sundt an employer of choice where people thrive in a culture of diversity.

Sundt Employee-Owner Experience/Diversity Representative Yvette Monreal came to the company in August 2014 after serving two enlistments with the U.S. Coast Guard. In her eight years of military service, she specialized in human resources and recruiting on bases in California and Virginia. At around 43,500 combined active and reserve members, the Coast Guard is easily the smallest of the U.S. military branches. Yvette said the Coast Guard is considered “small, but mighty,” enabling her to make a difference in her service.

In what ways does your Coast Guard service help make you a better employee?

It taught me to think outside the box when it comes to finding more efficient ways to complete the task at hand.

Why is the construction industry so appealing to veterans?

The nature of our work requires individuals to be hard-working team players, just as they were while in uniform.

How committed is Sundt to hiring veterans?

Schools, colleges and trade schools, women’s organizations, veteran and minority groups are contacted by e-mail, letters and phone to communicate job opportunities at Sundt. Additionally, Sundt is actively involved at job fairs and sessions in partnership with corresponding recruitment agencies.

How often do you run across fellow veterans at Sundt?

I enjoy interacting with veterans at Sundt on a regular basis. I can always count on fellow veterans to step up any time assistance is needed without being asked. That sense of ownership and pride in your work is reflected in Sundt’s Core Values.

What makes working here so enjoyable for you?

Since joining Sundt almost two years ago I have enjoyed a welcoming environment where I am appreciated for my service. My co-workers are always open to new ideas and processes that I bring to the table. It is this culture of inspiring employee-owners to think collaboratively and go beyond the expected that makes me proud to be a Sundt employee-owner.
