Sundt Foundation Awards $66,800 to Local Phoenix Nonprofits

PHOENIX (Dec. 18, 2015) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Phoenix employees have selected 28 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $66,800 for this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $7 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here’s a closer look at the Phoenix organizations that recently received funding.

$5,000 Grant Recipient (2)

St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance will use the funds to continue its effort in alleviating hunger across Arizona by effectively gathering and distributing food to those in need.

G.P.V.C.A.T., Inc. dba Paradise Valley Emergency Food Bank will use the grant to continue providing emergency food assistance to individuals living within the boundaries of the Paradise Valley Unified School District.

Family Promise provides families with the tools and training to care for their children, find employment and housing, and become independent. It offers basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter and a safe environment for families that have lost their security.

Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development will use the funds to provide a safe space for collaborating with youth and young adults in Maricopa County who are vulnerable or experiencing homelessness.

Florence Crittenton Services of Arizona offers a comprehensive continuum of care designed to help at-risk girls ages 10 to 21 years old overcome issues of abuse, neglect, teen pregnancy, teen parenting, and behavioral and/or mental health problems.

Gabriel’s Angels will use the funds to provide healing pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children throughout the state of Arizona.

Maggie’s Place, Inc. provides food, shelter, clothing and ongoing support for pregnant and parenting women in need across Arizona.

Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation will use the grant to provide tutoring and other educational support for children in foster care in the Phoenix and Tucson areas.

B.A.C.A Bikers Against Child Abuse is a non-profit organization that provides aid, comfort, safety and support to children who have been sexually, physically and emotionally abused.

Apache Junction Reach Out strives to alleviate hunger in East Valley by finding people in need and distributing food to them through an efficient food distribution model.

Duet: Partners in Health & Aging will use the funds to improve the quality of life for older adults across the Valley by offering a broad range of health and aging services.

A Stepping Stone Foundation provides stepping stones of success for children and their families who have limited opportunities.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation will use the funds to help cover hospital patient expenses at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country.

Central Arizona Shelter Services will use the grant money to provide shelter and supportive services to nearly 10,000 of the Valley’s homeless each year.

Arizona Brainfood is a non-profit that discreetly provides backpacks of food to feed hungry school children on the weekends.

Arizonans for Children, Inc. will use the funds to support its mentor program, which helps foster youth achieve healthy, responsible and productive lives as adults.

Flagstaff Shelter Services provides lodging, hygiene supplies and basic necessities to homeless men and women living within the Flagstaff community.

Maryvale Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free, state-chartered public school that prepares its students for college, a virtuous life and leadership within their community.

Valley of the Sun YMCA – Glendale/Peoria is one of the oldest nonprofits in Arizona offering programs, services and initiatives that enable kids, teens and families to be healthier in spirit, mind and body. The organization also prepares people for employment and helps foster a nationwide service ethic.

Power Paws Assistance Dogs will use the funds to offset the cost of training puppies for service and to more efficiently place them with children in need. The highly skilled dogs improve the lives of children with disabilities by providing daily assistance with turning light switches on and off, opening and closing doors, and retrieving items.

FANS Across America Charitable Foundation provides assistance to families who struggle with the financial burden of raising a seriously ill or special needs child. The organization also helps homeless students and families transition within Valley school districts to help keep them in school.

Neighborhood Ministries will use the funds to support its Kids Life program, which improves the lives of disadvantaged children by providing a safe, supportive place where children are introduced to poverty-breaking opportunities.

Arizona Behavioral Health Corporation provides quality, affordable housing and supportive services to persons with behavioral health needs.

Arizona Science Center will use the funds to support its core programs that help shape tomorrow’s leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Dysart Community Center provides basic health and education resources to local families on the verge of poverty.

Homeless Youth Connection will continue providing homeless youth with basic needs, including food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies and housing referrals.

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc, Community Center offers extensive services, in both urban and rural areas, to address the problems of the barrios of south central Phoenix. These services include education, health and human services, housing and economic development.

Foundation for Senior Living works to improve the quality of life for adults of all ages, especially senior citizens and those with disabilities, through personalized and caring services.
