Sundt Foundation Charity Golf Tournament Raises $31,800 for MDA

 |  Press Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 23, 2015) – The Sundt Foundation, a charitable organization funded by Sundt Construction, Inc. and its employees, hosted its annual Mike Gaines Charity Golf Tournament last month at Diablo Creek Golf Course in Concord, California. More than 100 golfers attended the tournament, raising $31,800 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in honor of long-time Sundt employee Mike Gaines, who passed away in 2002 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Originally launched in 2001 shortly after Gaines’ diagnosis, the tournament continues to raise money each year benefiting MDA in support of its research to find a cure for ALS. Although Gaines died in 2002, his legacy lives on through the Mike Gaines Charitable Fundraising Events held in Sacramento, San Diego, Tucson, Phoenix, and San Antonio. Sundt and the Sundt Foundation have hosted more than 40 events in the past 15 years, raising more than $1 million in donations for ALS research programs.  This year alone, the tournaments in Tucson, Phoenix and Sacramento have raised a total of $71,135.

“We are extremely grateful to all of our Sundt employees and supporters who participated and helped raise funds for ALS research,” said Sundt Vice President and Business Development Manager Teri Jones. “This tournament not only helps build awareness for such a terrible disease, but also provides a way for people to contribute to research and other advances.”

The Sundt Foundation has been raising funds for Sacramento-based non-profit organizations since 1999. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $6.5 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond.
