Sundt recently passed the halfway point in the 14-month project to build the new Downtown Phoenix Campus Sun Devil Fitness Complex for Arizona State University (ASU). The $25 million project (Sundt’s contract is for $20 million) is actually on track to open three weeks ahead of schedule to coincide with the arrival of students on campus this fall.

The five-story, 70,000-square-foot university construction project includes an indoor running track, 417,000-pound rooftop swimming pool (when full of water), large gymnasium, weight room, multi-purpose space, student lounge, bike co-op and locker rooms. It will also house Exercise and Wellness, an academic program in ASU’s School of Nutrition and Health Promotion.

“Finishes have started on the interiors and the highly acclaimed rooftop pool’s stainless steel shell was just completed,” said Sundt Project Manager Jeff Esgar. “We’ve been conducting tours and giving presentations with students from ASU’s Del E. Webb School of Construction. We’ve done the same with a group of high school students interested in construction careers. We gave a presentation about the project and then students had an opportunity to ask questions about our career paths. We topped off the afternoon with a tour of the building. Things are busy, but that’s the way we like it!”
