Sundt‘s commitment to creating and maintaining a healthy workplace has been recognized by Interactive Health, which recently named Sundt one of the “Healthiest Companies in America.”

“Only 67 companies achieved this status in 2012 (and just two in Arizona), so we are truly among an elite group,” said Kari Louie, Sundt’s Corporate Director of Total Rewards. “It is an honor to receive this recognition after only two years of participation in Interactive Health’s Interactive Health Index (IHI) program. It is really a testament to how our employees and their families have embraced our wellness program.”

Interactive Health is the nation’s leading provider of outcomes-based wellness solutions.  Its “Healthiest Companies in America” award is given to organizations across the nation that attained a company-wide low health risk status while achieving high employee participation in their wellness program.

In 2011, Sundt began participating in Interactive Health’s Interactive Health Index (IHI) program, which assesses each employee’s overall health and future risk of coronary heart disease and diabetes. The assessment is comprised of five modifiable risk factors, which are all potential causes of serious health problems (blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides and smoking). A unique, achievable goal is then assigned based on individual results and health improvement is measured using clinical data.

Sundt’s wellness program has the following goals:

•             Build a culture of wellness at Sundt

•             Use the health plan as a “health plan,” not a sick plan

•             Detect and manage health issues before they become serious

•             Encourage individuals to take an active role in preventive care

•             Help individuals get engaged and be accountable for their health

•             Control rising healthcare costs

“We are very pleased with the progress that has taken place since the rollout of this program,” Kari continued. “We’ve seen a drop in our chronic disease claims by 15 percent and our claims related to unhealthy lifestyle by 41 percent. Additionally, there has been remarkable progress with our employees and spouses with identified health issues who participated in both years.”
