Sundt recently broke ground on its ninth criminal justice project in the past five years: the $110 million San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City, Calif. The 576-bed replacement facility, which is being constructed with joint venture partner Layton Construction, will help relieve overcrowding while meeting new state requirements for detention facilities. Because the Construction Manager at Risk project is currently in the programming phase, many of its details (including square footage, number of stories and LEED goal) are still being finalized. It is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2015.
