Stop The STCKY takes innovative approach to reducing construction fatalities and injuries.

Tempe, Ariz. (April 3, 2024) – Sundt Construction’s Stop The STCKY™ (Sh*t That Can Kill You) program was recently awarded first place for Innovation at the 2024 Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America Annual Convention. The firm also took second place in the heavy civil category for the AGC Construction Safety Excellence Awards.

“We’re honored to be recognized with this top honor by the AGC,” said Vice President and Corporate Director of HS&E Paul Levin. “Stop The STCKY is constructed to recognize and mitigate STCKY (Sh*t That Can Kill You) through the identification, implementation, and execution of direct controls and safeguards. We are innovating our traditional rules-based compliance program by leveraging the principles of energy-based safety and human performance.”

“Stop The STCKY isn’t just an innovative way to protect the lives of Sundt employee-owners,” said Sundt President and CEO Mike Hoover. “We believe it will be a game changer for the entire industry by significantly reducing serious injuries and fatalities.”

The AGC Innovation Awards are designed to encourage free thinkers to provide pioneering solutions to industry challenges. Sundt’s Stop the STCKY program addresses how the industry’s recordable injury rate (RIR) has gone down over the last decade, but fatalities have plateaued. It’s this gap that Sundt is looking to close through its Stop The STCKY program. Learn more about the program at www.stopthestcky.com.

This year marks Sundt’s 12th Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) from the AGC. Sundt’s safety program has been recognized twice with the AGC CSEA Grand award for safety, in 2006 and 2016.
