Sundt Expands Leadership Team as Growth Accelerates in Texas

 |  Press Release

TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 16, 2016) – Sundt Construction, Inc. (www.sundt.com) has tapped longtime Sundt executive Eric Hedlund to lead the general contractor’s expansion in Texas. The national contractor has been aggressively investing in the state for several years, and Texas now accounts for 25 percent of the company’s new work.

Hedlund, a 29-year Sundt veteran, returns to the state as Sundt’s Texas District manager just a few years after helping the company establish its office in San Antonio in 2010. Meanwhile, previous Sundt Texas District manager John Carlson has assumed the new role of corporate strategic business officer.

“Sundt has a long history in Texas and a deep commitment to the state,” said Sundt President Mike Hoover. “Expanding our leadership team in Texas will help ensure that we continue providing great work here for many years to come. Being a part of this community is not only important to us as a company, but to many of our team members, like Eric and John, who have deep roots in Texas and a vested interest in the future and identity of the state.”

In addition to heading up Sundt’s offices in Fort Worth and San Antonio, Hedlund will be responsible for the overall performance of the district’s building projects, including acquiring and executing work. Hedlund is a past national chairperson of the Building Division and the Public Private Industry Advisory Council for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America. Additionally, he has served on the national Board of Directors for AGC.

Carlson, a 33-year Sundt veteran based in Sundt’s San Antonio office, will assist with strategic projects for building, heavy civil and industrial work throughout Texas and nationwide. Additionally, he will continue to educate and advocate for the use of alternate project delivery methods as a national leader in this area, including public-private partnerships, design-build and construction manager at risk. He will also focus his efforts on national industry organizational involvement.

Sundt has a history of nearly 50 years and more than $2 billion of project work throughout the Lone Star State. Among the general contractor’s most iconic Texas projects are the West Seventh Street Bridge, Fort Worth; Reunion Tower, Dallas; Legacy Town Centers, Plano; and the new airfield at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

Additionally, Sundt has led important transformations in communities across the state, including the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) 911 Dispatch Center, San Antonio; the Career and Technology Education (CATE) building at Brackenridge High School, San Antonio; the Wichita Falls Regional Airport terminal; the U.S. Department of Defense’s Warrior in Transition Barracks at Fort Bliss, Fort Sam Houston and Fort Hood; and numerous major road and highway projects for the Texas Department of Transportation and local municipalities.
