Sundt Foundation Awards $44,000 to Local Nonprofits

PHOENIX (Mar. 25, 2015) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Phoenix employees have selected 18 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $44,000 for this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $6 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here’s a closer look at the Phoenix organizations that recently received funding.

 

$5,000 Grant Recipients (2)

Patrick Peterson Foundation for Success will use the funds to launch the Patrick’s Corner program, which will place and maintain libraries in Title I schools and inner city community centers. The program provides at-risk students with access to books and a safe environment to read. The foundation’s goal is to install eight Patrick’s Corners by 2017.

Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona helps families of low and moderate incomes become homeowners by building, repairing and renovating homes to create affordable housing in the metro Phoenix area.

Sojourner Center serves victims of domestic violence in Arizona by providing a range of services to support individuals and families including student learning, personal development, K-12 mentoring, safety planning, self-esteem building, coping skills, non-violent discipline classes and more.  

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides shelter and supportive services to elderly, disabled and veteran homeless adults in the 49-bed bridge housing shelter. The program also helps residents transition into independent housing.

Foundation for Blind Children will use the funds to support their SHARP program for school-aged children who are blind or visually impaired.

Hospice of the Valley provides end-of-life care for people who do not have health insurance or whose insurance does not fully pay for hospice services.

Chandler Christian Community Center helps children of low-income families by offering emergency and supplemental food items tailored to age-specific needs.

Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank will use the funds to renovate its food bank, which served more than 43,000 individuals in 2013.

UPWARD for Children and Families offers inclusive child care, special education and comprehensive therapy for children and youth with mild to severe disabilities.

Phoenix Rescue Mission provides food, shelter and life-changing services to seniors, veterans, disabled individuals and working poor families. The grant will aid in responding to the 20 percent increased demand for meals and community outreach for up to 7,000 adults.

Civitan Foundation, Inc. will use the grant to continue providing an accessible, safe and affordable environment that enhances the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages.

Arizona Literacy & Learning Center improves literacy for thousands of children and adults in Arizona with language-based learning and auditory processing disorders through research-based screenings, diagnosis and treatment.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona strives to improve the lives of disadvantaged children through its STARS Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program, in which supportive, adult mentors are matched with youth who have a parent in prison.

Community Alliance Against Family Abuse empowers individuals, families and communities to be free of abuse through its multitude of voluntary services that provide awareness, prevention, collaboration and support.

Lions Camp Tatiyee is the only organization in Arizona that provides individuals with special needs the opportunity to spend a week away from home in the White Mountains while enjoying activities and meeting new friends, all free of charge.

World Hunger Ecumenical Arizona Task Force Inc. (WHEAT) provides professional clothing and job placement for men and women as well as feeds, clothes and educates their families.

United Sound, Inc., provides musical performance experiences for students with special needs, as well as supports music educators in creating their own United Sound ensembles through training, support and organizational resources.

Desert Voices is the only program in Arizona which helps children who are born deaf or hard of hearing with oral education programs so that they can eventually participate with peers in traditional school environments.
