Sundt Foundation Awards $15,500 to Local Nonprofits

TUCSON, Ariz. (Mar. 25, 2015) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Tucson employees have selected 10 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $15,500 this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $6 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond.

Sahuarita Food Bank provides food to 80 low-income households every week and 220 separate households per month through donations, food purchased in bulk and their community garden.

Yuma Community Food Bank will use the grant towards distributing 31,170 backpacks with food staples to 1,190 children in 22 schools from September through May.

Make Way for Books will use the grant to deliver 375 books for classroom book collections to help children develop basic reading skills and improved attitude towards reading and academics.

United Community Health Center-Maria Auxiliadora, Inc. provides comprehensive, quality healthcare to low income and disadvantaged clients in a 2,500-square-mile service area in Southern Arizona, using three non-emergency patient transport vehicles and two mobile dental units.

Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona offers diapers, support and supplies for those with diaper- and incontinence-supply need.

Haven Totes, Inc. will use the grant to deliver weekend totes of food to low income families, seniors and low-income children in Title 1 schools.

Tucson Children’s Museum, Inc. provides fun, play-based, interactive, hands-on learning experiences for children and their families. The grant will provide 20 community memberships to local organizations serving children and families in need.

Green Valley Assistance Services, Inc. dba Valley Assistance Services will use the grant to provide 200 low-income seniors with essential wellness services that promote independence and improve quality of life.

Southern Arizona Network for Down Syndrome partners will iCan Shine to provide a one-week bike camp for as many as 40 individuals with Down syndrome, ages eight and up, to give them the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike.

 

$1,000 Grant Recipient

YMCA of Southern Arizona will use the grant to support its All Kids Swim (AKS) program this summer. The free program reduces preventable tragedies by teaching water safety to low-income children.
