TRANSIT & RAIL

Sundt leverages our transit expertise to build systems that support riders, stakeholders, and the surrounding communities that rely on them.

LIGHT RAIL

Dependable light rail systems move our communities forward.

Successful light rail projects rely on teams experienced in utility relocation, drainage systems and urban corridor management. Just as important is maintaining a strong relationship and working with patrons, local businesses, and all stakeholders. Sundt uses our wide-ranging experience to successfully deliver the technical aspects of light rail projects, while managing communications with stakeholders to ensure a smooth construction process.

“Working along a main street lined with small businesses, you’re affecting so many people’s lives and livelihoods. We meet frequently with business owners and community leaders and get to know them on a first-name basis. This not only helps in planning the more intrusive scopes of the work, but it assures the community we are there to listen to them and do whatever we can to make the construction process as livable as possible.”

— Chris Elison, Senior Project Manager, Sundt Transportation Group

in Economic Development with Valley Metro

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: VALLEY METRO

Over the last 18 years Sundt has built more than half of the initial 20-mile track of the Valley Metro Rail system

As a 2020 recipient of a Build America Award of Merit in Highway and Transportation, the Gilbert Road Extension continued Sundt’s relationship with Valley Metro, adding 1.9 miles to an existing 26-mile light rail system, two new stations, and one park-and-ride with a transit center. The project has the first four-legged roundabout in the U.S. to incorporate a train and saw new innovations in in storm water pollution prevention (SWPP). Beyond this, the team prioritized forming close-knit relationships with impacted stakeholders, including businesses and residents.

STREETCAR

Aligning with stakeholders to improve city transit

Balancing limiting public disruption with delivering quality utility relocations, track installations and other technical upgrades is key to delivering a successful streetcar project. Because Sundt has diverse transportation and water experience, our in-house teams are equipped to complete complex utility relocations while managing a variety of stakeholders.

COMMUTER RAIL

Delivering riders to their destination quickly and safely

As communities invest in passenger rail networks, contractors must balance the needs of owners, agencies, freight operators, utilities and the public. Sundt collaborates directly with stakeholders to address risk early, minimize disruptions during construction and deliver successful projects in complex transportation corridors.

BUS RAPID TRANSIT

Using multi-sector experience to keep communities connected

Bus Rapid Transit projects require experience across disciplines in roadway construction, transit coordination, and urban infrastructure including drainage systems. Our teams plan for traffic flow to minimize roadway congestion and deliver consistent, reliable bus rapid transit systems.
