Project Overview
Sundt was originally awarded a single contract to update one building on the campus of Gompers Preparatory Academy in 2021. While delivering that work, the school awarded Sundt a second contract to modernize the rest of their campus. This comprehensive upgrade of the existing Gompers campus includes updating existing buildings in addition to exterior and interior improvements.
The crew began constructing two brand new buildings totaling 32,000 square feet, then moved on to demolish existing portable structures to make way for another facility, five tennis courts, a 150-person indoor lecture hall, and a 50-person outdoor lecture hall. These new additions include a mix of classrooms, science labs, teacher’s lounges, and specialized spaces for courses such as Integrated Life Science.
Because the original campus was constructed in 1955, many of its safety features were due for an upgrade. The team installed new fire alarms, security systems detection and ADA compliant ramps, all fitted to current standards. The team also implemented seismic upgrades across the campus.
The school has remained open and operational through construction, with strong communication between the Sundt team and school administration. The construction team coordinated activity around school events and breaks and continue to keep the school community informed about construction progress and impacts.
