As part of a public-private partnership comprised of ASU, the City of Scottsdale, The Plaza Companies, and Higgins Development Partners, Sundt constructed the first three structures on the 37-acre site that once was a regional shopping mall in Scottsdale, AZ.
The four-story, Class A office buildings (SkySong 1 and SkySong 2) are 151,000 square feet each, located on what is now a familiar site in the valley – the colossal “SkySong”shade structure. Oriented around shaded and landscaped pedestrian-scale boulevards with street-level retail, public gathering places, open spaces, water features and bike paths, SkySong is designed to serve the needs of businesses, research and technology, industry and academia while building vital networks between university innovations, regional progress and the global technology industry. As part of our contract, Sundt also completed all infrastructure, landscape, and hardscape on this 37-acre site.
This massive mixed-use master plan was a product of ASU’s president, Dr. Michael M. Crow’s vision and commitment to “The New American University” and includes a focus on innovation, research, and a partnership with the private sector to create opportunities for economic development – a place where business and innovation are one and the same.
SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center serves as a collaborative environment for 50+ technology-based businesses and employs 2,000+ people on-site. Companies located at SkySong enjoy a special relationship with ASU and can partner with ASU to form research partnerships and connect with the university’s world-class faculty and research institutes to conduct use-inspired research that has a positive impact in the real world.
Although contractually a separate project with SkySong Residential 1 and MT Builders, the SkySong Parking Garage was a component to a series of projects Sundt completed on the site in 2008. The six-level, 950-stall pre-cast parking garage is enclosed by a two-hour fire rated wall.
