Project Overview

Using over 2,500 acres of previously undeveloped high desert land, Green River Energy Center is a 540MWdc photovoltaic (PV) plant and associated 400MW/1600MWh battery storage facility. This represents Sundt’s fourth project with rPlus Energies.

The project scope included the installation of 130,000 piles and nearly 1,000,000 PV modules. This is Sundt’s inaugural battery energy storage system (BESS) project. Throughout the design and construction phases, we collaborated closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure seamless integration among the photovoltaic (PV) solar field, BESS and substation infrastructure.

The team overcame the challenge of a remote location, which affected major equipment procurement, sourcing office supplies and materials deliveries, through careful logistics planning.

The ground conditions proved especially challenging due to the unexpectedly rocky conditions. In the PV field, the team had to perform additional remediation efforts on over 13,000 piles. and For the BESS yard, all of the piles underwent remediation due to the soil conditions. The team came up with cost-effective remediation solutions for the client while maintaining the quality and structural integrity of the foundation and without impacts to the schedule.
