Project Overview

The Scenario 3B project will rehabilitate an aging 48-inch transmission main in two separate segments, Segment 1 and Segment 4, combining for a total of 10,800 linear feet. Segment 1 traverses under SR-51 at Orangewood Ave, through a residential corridor, and ties in near the Dreamy Draw bike path trailhead. Segment 4 will traverse through a residential neighborhood along 26th street.

The project is the first “steel slip lining” pipe rehabilitation project completed by Sundt. To safely and effectively complete the job, the work requires use of a pipe carrier, an all-electric cart that can travel into the pipes and properly place the lining, where it will be welded and grouted. Without this custom cart, the job would have taken a predicted four times as long and required five times as many crew members.

The cart was manufactured in South Dakota specifically for the project. Three Sundt crew members were assigned to be the cart operators and traveled to South Dakota to meet with the manufacturer and understand the cart’s operations and safety features.
