Sundt Construction Selected to Build New Barracks Complex at Presidio of Monterey

MONTEREY, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has awarded a $56.3 million design-build contract to Sundt Construction, Inc. (www.sundt.com) for a new barracks complex at the Presidio of Monterey.

The 110,000-square-foot barracks will be used primarily to house 320 Defense Language Institute students in sustainable, contemporary living spaces, comparable to those of the private sector.

“Military housing has come a long way in its resemblance to other types of private-sector residences, both in terms of energy-efficiency and comfort,” said Sundt Preconstruction Project Manager Randy Rusing. “This new structure will be an attractive addition to the Presidio of Monterey, and will allow the installation to accommodate the high volume of trainees participating in one of the most highly recognized foreign language programs in the world.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2016 and is slated for completion in the spring of 2018. The project is expected to receive LEED Silver certification, with sustainability features like rainwater collection and high efficiency mechanical systems.
