Kipp Amaker

Regional Manager

Kipp Amaker’s career has taken him throughout the country and overseas. After graduating from The Citadel with a civil engineering degree in 2010, Kipp took a position in the project management program with a commercial sitework, paving and grading company in Charleston, South Carolina for two years. He had the urge to work overseas and move to heavy industrial work, so he took a position as a Construction Manager with a private contracting company in southwest Afghanistan for three years. His team was embedded with the Navy Seabees and helped to manage large infrastructure improvement construction projects throughout southern Afghanistan.

After his contract in Afghanistan concluded, Kipp and his wife moved back to the United States. He took a job at the VC Summer Nuclear Power Station in South Carolina with CB&I, building two new AP1000 Westinghouse nuclear reactors. Kipp joined Sundt in 2018. His first project with Sundt was managing an advanced technology project for a confidential client in Chandler, Arizona. Kipp then relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico to help build a state-of-the-art advanced packaging facility at another confidential client site. Kipp’s team is currently wrapping up that project, and he has relocated to Boise, Idaho to manage upcoming projects with another confidential client and help to grow that region.

Tell us about your favorite KAPBCS moment.

My favorite KAPBCS moment would probably have to be one on our most recent project in New Mexico, and I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish as a team for our client. We took a 40-year-old, mothballed building that was shut down about 20 years ago and was infested with asbestos, mold, raccoons, you name it, and transformed the space into an advanced packaging cleanroom and manufacturing facility. Within 18 months of mobilization to the site, the project team used skill and grit to turn this old, rundown facility into an operating cleanroom on time for our confidential client.

Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?

I started working construction in high school during the summers for a residential home builder/handyman that could really do just about anything. Building cool shit for people quickly became something I fell in love with, which is why I chose to pursue a civil engineering degree and a lifelong passion for construction. The thought of a boring 8-5 office job, where everything is the same every day and week has never had an appeal to me. Construction gives me the opportunity to work hard dealing with different challenges every day and play hard after punching out from the time clock with the team, my family, and friends.

I have two twin boys that play competitive club soccer. I played soccer through college so one of my favorite things to do is watch them play in their soccer games on the weekends and during tournaments. The kids and I love anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. During the winters we love snowboarding, and during the summers we enjoy anything on the boat at the lake.
