Work Progresses on Two Roadway Improvement Projects in Mesa

MESA. Ariz. (April 20, 2026) – Sundt Construction is leading two major roadway improvement projects for the City of Mesa that will enhance mobility, modernize critical infrastructure and improve safety for residents and commuters. The projects are corridor improvements along Ellsworth Road between Ray Road and Germann Road and roadway reconstruction along Broadway Road from Lesueur to Spur and Stapley Drive from 8th Avenue to Broadway Road.

The Ellsworth Road project will widen the corridor to six travel lanes, with three lanes in each direction, and add dedicated bike lanes. Additional improvements include upgraded traffic signals, installation of city-owned fiber optic infrastructure, new street lighting, storm drain upgrades and landscaped medians with enhanced irrigation systems.

The Broadway Road Phase One Improvements project will rebuild sections of the roadway while replacing aging underground infrastructure, including water, gas and storm drain systems. The project will also convert overhead electric lines to underground service, improving system reliability and creating a modern streetscape.

New traffic signals and a pedestrian crossing signal at Fraser Drive near Eagles Park and Lowell Elementary School will be installed to improve safety, along with new street lighting, storm drain enhancements and irrigation upgrades.

Construction on the Ellsworth Road project is anticipated to be completed in 2027 while construction for the Broadway Road Phase One Improvements project will be completed in early 2028.
