Sundt Completes Dam 101, Advancing Flood Protection in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas. (July 27, 2026) – Sundt Construction has successfully completed the Upper Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District Dam 101 project, a critical component of the Lake Creek Flood Mitigation initiative near Round Rock, Texas, north of Austin.

Stretching nearly one mile, Dam 101 is an earthen embankment featuring a clay core and reaching heights of up to 40 feet with an effective 0.6-mile labyrinth weir spillway. The structure is designed to significantly reduce flood risk in one of the region’s most vulnerable areas, helping protect more than 1,000 residents while improving emergency access during severe weather events.

“This project reflects the kind of work that has a lasting impact on the communities we serve,” said Kevin Graf, senior vice president and district manager for Sundt’s Texas Transportation team. “By leveraging our self-perform expertise, our team collaborated with the owner and designers to deliver infrastructure that enhances safety and resilience across the region.”

Sundt self-performed major scopes of work, including 60,000 cubic yards of excavation and 190,000 cubic yards of zoned embankment construction. The team also installed critical infrastructure such as drainage systems, a 60-inch steel pipe, and multiple concrete structures to support the dam’s long-term performance.

As the first phase of the Lake Creek Flood Mitigation initiative, Dam 101 underscores Sundt’s expertise in delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across Texas while contributing to the safety and resilience of local communities.
