DENTON, Texas. (Sept. 22, 2026) – Construction has broken ground on the City of Denton’s Pecan Creek Water Reclamation Plant expansion, a significant investment that will increase treatment capacity, improve reliability and modernize operations to meet rising demand.
Sundt is leading the effort, which includes a new 75-million-gallon-per-day headworks facility and a 30-million-gallon-per-day buildout utilizing membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology. These enhancements will strengthen process performance and maintain high treatment standards as the region continues to grow.
“This work strengthens the backbone of Denton’s wastewater system,” said Matt Bothun, Texas regional manager for Sundt’s Water & Wastewater Group. “Through advanced treatment solutions and strategic phasing, we’re delivering critical improvements while keeping the existing facility fully operational and untouched throughout the construction of their new improvements.”
The scope also features ultraviolet disinfection systems, anaerobic digesters, expanded solids handling capabilities, underground utility upgrades and site enhancements integrated within the existing plant footprint.
Once complete, the expansion will help ensure Denton’s wastewater system keeps pace with the region’s growth while safeguarding public health and environmental quality for years to come.
Sundt is currently working on multiple roadway projects for the City of Denton and a number of other infrastructure projects across Texas, including El Paso Water’s Pure Water Center. The contractor was recognized with the 2025 AGC Build America award and the 2025 Texas American Public Works Association Project of the Year award for its City of San Antonio Broadway Street Reconstruction project.
