As a Senior Project Administrator based in the San Diego, California office, Soula Wynne helps keep complex projects on schedule and organized. With nearly three decades in construction, her accomplishments include major projects for K-12 and higher education institutions including the San Diego State University Brawley Lab in Imperial County, California, Hardy Elementary School modernization, and the upcoming Terminal T2 East Connector project at San Diego International Airport (SAN).
Beyond education and aviation infrastructure, she also finds time to participate on the AGC San Diego chapter community service committee and volunteers as a board member for the Sundt Foundation. She logged over 122 volunteer hours with the Sundt Foundation and helped coordinate multiple volunteer events and support for local non-profit organizations. These efforts include volunteer construction projects, food drives, grant check deliveries, job site walks for students, donation drives, e-waste recycling, coastal clean ups, and more volunteering opportunities for nonprofit partners.
“Soula has been an outstanding member of the Sundt Foundation Board of Directors. She leads our San Diego efforts, and we are grateful for her continued passion, leadership, and commitment to improving our communities,” said Sundt Foundation Executive Director Emily Dwosh.
Q: How did you get involved with the Sundt Foundation?
A: I joined the Sundt Foundation as soon as I was hired at Sundt in 2018. I was inspired by the impact our collective donations can have on the communities where we live and work. And I love that service is incorporated in our company purpose and core values. I have participated in donation drives, volunteer events, and grant check deliveries. And now I serve on the Foundation board as a Director at Large for San Diego.
Q: What are some highlights of your work with the community?
A: I have really enjoyed our volunteer build projects. One of my favorites was a Make-A-Wish project for a boy named Brennan. He wanted a Jurassic Park-themed playhouse he could share with his sisters. That project was special because our Sundt volunteers rallied around his idea and brought his storyboard to life. We got one of our signage contacts [SO3.1]to make a big Jurassic Park sign like in the movie. The best part was when we all got to meet Brennan and walked away humbled by this kind, amazing young boy who battled and beat cancer.
Q: What’s a way Sundt supports volunteering in the community?
A: So many ways. Between volunteer events and matching Sundt Foundation donations. Recently, at the Hardy Elementary School where we are doing work, I asked the principal if any teachers would like me to come read to their class. I got to read to a second-grade class. And Sundt provided free books to give to the class all about construction. They were so excited and had all kinds of questions.
Q: How are events/causes selected for the area?
A: We have almost 100% participation in the Sundt Foundation for our region. People here really enjoy working with the community. For grant submissions, we have everyone in our region vote on the submissions[SO4.1] every quarter. We also have some organizations our team members have reached out to and organized volunteer events. It really comes down to the people and their passion for a cause or charity. I recommend people bring up opportunities to do volunteer work with their managers. It can be a fun day and a great way to bond with your co-workers.
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to make an impact in their community?
A: Get involved. Say yes, the next time you see a donation drive, a volunteer event, or a grant check delivery. You will not regret it. This is the heart of what we do at Sundt.
