Sundt Completes SDSU Imperial Valley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories

San Diego, CA. (Oct. 13, 2025) – Sundt Construction has completed the San Diego State University (SDSU) Imperial Valley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories in Brawley, California. Marking Sundt’s sixth project for SDSU, the facility will provide state-of-the-art learning and research spaces for the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators.

“The completion of the SDSU Imperial Valley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories reflects Sundt’s commitment to building facilities that shape the future of entire communities,” said Chris Sullivan, Sundt project director. “After growing up in the Imperial Valley, I’m excited for this investment in the region’s talent, economy and leadership in renewable energy innovation.”

Built with durable tilt-up concrete panels and sustainable stormwater retention systems, the project was delivered ahead of schedule through a collaborative design-build process. Seventy percent of the new facility is dedicated to laboratories, including a standalone laboratory and research building with teaching labs and offices. Some of the specialty features included wet labs, custom laboratories for scientists and researchers conducting experiments involving chemicals or biological matter.

Situated in “Lithium Valley,” the building will help meet workforce needs in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and STEM fields by providing local students with access to cutting-edge education. Its location near major lithium extraction and geothermal projects makes it a vital hub for collaboration.

Sundt has over 70 years of diverse project experience throughout California. The company has offices in San Diego, Irvine and Sacramento. Sundt is currently working on the Fine Arts Renovation project for Cypress College and multiple projects for San Diego Unified School District. The contractor recently completed the Airport Administration Building at San Diego International Airport (SDIA), its fourth project for the San Diego Regional Airport Authority.
