Sundt Celebrates Southwestern College Institutional Technology Building Topping Out

 |  Education, Press Release

SAN DIEGO (March 11, 2022) – Sundt Construction recently celebrated the topping out at Southwestern College’s new Institutional Technology building.

“This is a special moment for not only our team, but everyone involved with the project,” said Conrad Benitez, Sundt’s senior project manager. “Our team is working very hard to bring this project to fruition for this campus, and this marks a key milestone in our progress.”

The ceremony commemorating the structure’s last steel beam placement was attended by the District’s President, the College’s staff and faculty, and the design and construction team members.

The $18 million single-story facility will house office space, a conference room and the community college’s data center. The 18,500-square-foot project is being designed and built to achieve net-zero energy usage, or zero net energy consumption from the building. Construction on the project started in the summer of 2021. The architecture features glass curtain walls, metal-clad sunshades and concrete tilt-wall panels.

Sundt has over 70 years of diverse project work throughout California and is a known leader in higher ed construction with a portfolio of more than 200 college and university projects. The company has built a reputation as a sustainable, collaborative builder, especially in community college construction. It has offices in Orange County, San Diego and Sacramento.
