SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 5, 2019) – During its first-quarter distribution, the Sundt Foundation donated $22,500 to six local San Diego charities. 
Special Needs Research Foundation of San Diego received $2,000. The organization helps families of children with special needs to find the right resources and specialists. Special Needs Research Foundation of San Diego publishes a free annual research guide called Flourishing Families, A Parent Resource Guide for Children with Special Needs, which distributed throughout San Diego County to families and advocates.
“Learning that your child has special needs and not knowing where to turn for information and help can be overwhelming,” said Victoria Trebian, the Sundt Foundation’s San Diego region board member. “Special Needs Research Foundation of San Diego provides a free guide, with over 1,000 resources to assist families with helpful information. Sundt’s grant will help print 4,000 copies of the 2019 issue.”
Other first-quarter grants include:
Aseltine School received $5,000 to support its Resolution Program which empowers at-risk youth, who have struggled due to disabilities and difficult lives, to surmount unhealthy habits through critical self-reflection, creative problem-solving and conflict resolution.
The Make-a-Wish Foundation of San Diego, Inc., received $2,500 to support their life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Last year, the organization granted 209 wishes to critically ill children in San Diego County.
Purple Tree Cafe, which received $3,000, gives people with disabilities market-relevant experience in customer service, food handling and baking. The grant will be used for its cart operations, providing more competitive integrated employment.
The Us4Warriors Foundation received $5,000 to support their Food4Warrior food distributions that help hundreds of military and veteran families across San Diego County each month. The organization also is the exclusive provider of groceries for the seven clinics of the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Diego County.
Miracle Babies, which received $5,000, helps to unite families with their critically ill newborns in the neonatal intensive-care unit and helps to reduce NICU admissions through prevention, education and research. They also help parents overcome the significant financial and logistical barriers to visitations.
The Sundt Foundation awards grants quarterly to area charities that support disadvantaged children and families. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt employee-owners.
