- Natural gas-only operation with full auxiliary system integration
- Providing power for MacDill Air Force Base and the surrounding community
Project Overview
Sundt was contracted by Tampa Electric Company (TECO) for the South Tampa Resiliency Project. This critical infrastructure at the MacDill Power Station brings increased energy reliability to the MacDill Air Force Base and the surrounding community. The state-of-the-art facility includes installation of four Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE), each with a gross output of 18 MW for a combined output of 72 MW.
The engines supplied by Wärtsilä, a global leader in energy solutions, are engineered for efficiency and run on natural gas. The engines incorporate into the main power plant auxiliaries, including gas conditioning, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), water cooling radiators, ductwork, exhaust stack and electrical building. The plant design utilizes existing facilities for fire suppression, potable water and wastewater.
