Sundt Breaks Ground on I-10 Widening Project in El Paso

 |  Civil & Transportation, Press Release

EL PASO, Texas (June 21, 2022) – Sundt Construction recently broke ground on the new I-10 widening project from Antonio Street to Mesa Street in west El Paso for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The $174.3 million project will reconstruct the divided highway from a two-lane into a three-lane in each direction.

“Our team is very excited to partner again with TxDOT on this project to continue its vision to reimagine the transportation systems around El Paso,” said Mark Soyster, area manager of Sundt’s Transportation Group. “This is an extensive project for the area and people, and I am confident that we are the right team for the job.”

The design-bid-build project near the western border of El Paso County will improve operation, circulation and safety along the 11.2-mile stretch.  The project will reconstruct a new overpass at Thorn, widen the Redd Road overpass, add a new underpass at Los Mochis, upgrade drainage systems and add lighting and an intelligent traffic system (ITS).

Within the past five years, Sundt has completed over $250 million worth of construction projects for TxDOT in the El Paso region. The company recently completed the I-10 Connect project, making the final adjustments for smoother traffic flow between the TxDOT El Paso loop systems. Its GO 10 collector-distributor lanes project completed in 2019 was completed six months ahead of schedule, earning numerous awards, including the prestigious Build America Award, honoring its most impressive construction projects. The company has offices in El Paso, Dallas and San Antonio and over $3 billion of past work throughout Texas.
