EL PASO, Texas (May 8, 2025) – Sundt Construction started work on State Highway 178 Artcraft Road Improvement Project, a transformative infrastructure initiative designed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow and support economic growth in the international and tri-state region of Texas, New Mexico and Mexico.
The project, spanning approximately three miles from the New Mexico state line to Interstate Highway 10 (I-10), will introduce critical improvements, including four direct connectors at the SH 178/I-10 interchange. These direct connectors will allow vehicles to bypass frontage roads, traffic signals and congestion points along North Desert Boulevard and South Desert Boulevard. Additional improvements include new U-turn bridges, extended frontage roads and grade separations at Upper Valley Road and Westside Drive, all aimed at reducing travel delays and increasing roadway efficiency.
“The SH 178 Artcraft Road project is a vital investment in the region’s transportation infrastructure, ensuring a safer and more reliable roadway for residents, businesses and commercial trade,” said Sundt Area Manager Mark Soyster. “Sundt looks forward to continuing our ongoing partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation as we deliver safer, smoother highways for motorists.”
By modernizing SH 178 Artcraft Road, the project will enhance east-west connectivity to NM 136 and the Santa Teresa Border Crossing, improve access to key activity centers such as West Towne Marketplace, FoxConn and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Intermodal Facility, and create a safer, more efficient corridor for all travelers.
Sundt has been building across Texas for over 50 years and has several ongoing projects in El Paso, Midland/Odessa, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and San Antonio.
