Sundt Tops Out San Diego International Airport Administration Building

SAN DIEGO (October 24, 2022) – Sundt Construction recently celebrated its topping out of the new Airport Administration Building at the San Diego International Airport (SDIA).

“This is a large milestone not only for our team but for the Airport Authority also,” said Ryan Nessen, Sundt’s Senior Vice President and California District Manager for the Building Group. “The faster we complete this project, the sooner that the rest of the Terminal One Replacement work can be completed.”

The design-build project team celebrated the structural steel topping off for the Airport Administration Building with a ceremony (including the signing of the final steel beam) and barbeque.

The new Airport Administration Building is a replacement to the San Diego Airport Authority’s current existing administration building. The current building is located in an area that conflicts with proposed terminal and roadway improvements that cannot be completed until the administration building has been relocated.

The project consists of the construction of a brand-new 130,000-square-foot building and the relocation of features from the current administration building. With the structural topping off, the project is about one year away from completion.

Sundt has over 70 years of diverse project experience throughout California and a presence across the state with offices in San Diego, Irvine and Sacramento. The company’s San Diego office has a long history of performing award-winning aviation work at the San Diego International Airport (SDIA) and recently celebrated the topping out of its new administration building.
