Sundt Hires Five in its Industrial Group in Portland

PORTLAND (October 4, 2022) – Sundt Construction added five to its Industrial Group in Oregon. James Castaneda, Kelly Johnson, Steven Gundersen, Cherie Breault and Arafat Ara will all work on the Willamette Water Supply System Water Treatment Plant in Sherwood, Ore.

“As we expand our project teams, we are focused on bringing in best and brightest individuals in the industry,” said Mike Neher, project manager. “I am confident these employee-owners will succeed at Sundt, and I look forward to working with them.”

Castaneda has over 25 years of health and safety experience coming into his role as the health, safety and environmental project manager. His professional career has occurred throughout the Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest with several construction firms and industrial corporations. Castaneda graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health.

Johnson joins the team as a project administrator. She has experience as a project manager and project coordinator. She will be responsible for providing administrative support to the project.

Gundersen will serve as a project quality manager. He has worked in the construction industry for the last fifteen years and has specialized in quality assurance and control.

Breault brings twelve years of health and safety experience to her role as field safety coordinator. She has worked throughout the Pacific Northwest for other construction firms and has an associate degree in business administration and management from Clark College.

Ara received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Penn State University and has worked as a project engineer since then. She will serve as a field engineer on the project.

Sundt has been building critical infrastructure across the Western United States for 132 years. In 2016, the company completed the award-winning Sellwood Bridge in Portland and was recently awarded the Interstate-5 Rose Quarter improvement project in northeast Portland. The company is building the Willamette Water Supply Program’s water treatment plant in southwest Portland.
