Sundt Completes Construction at Cypress College

 |  Building, Education, Press Release

CYPRESS, Calif. (November 1, 2021) – Sundt Construction, Inc., recently completed renovations to Cypress College’s Veteran Resource Center (VRC) and reconstructed a new science, engineering and math (SEM) building both on the north side of the campus.

“We are thrilled to hand over the two new buildings to Cypress College,” said Jim Householder, project executive for Sundt’s California District Building Group. “It gives us great pride to work on such meaningful projects that will assist in our community’s prosperity.”

The expansion of the VRC and the renovation of the existing student activities center added 12,000 square feet to the existing building. It also provided new areas to support student veterans at the College. The project also included a tribute garden, veterans memorial bridge, and outdoor plaza.

The new $80 million SEM building replaced an outdated structure with a state-of-the-art complex that includes 21 lecture and 23 laboratory classrooms, offices and support spaces and a highly advanced, domed immersive digital classroom and crematorium for the mortuary science program.

These are the first two projects completed for North Orange County Community College District’s Measure J program, passed by voters in November 2014. Providing modern facilities to support the sciences was a top priority of Measure J.

Sundt has over 70 years of diverse project work throughout California and is a known leader in higher ed construction with a portfolio of more than 200 college and university projects throughout the state. The company has built a reputation as a sustainable, collaborative builder, especially in community college construction. Sundt will return next year to the Cypress campus to renovate and improve the College’s fine arts building. It has offices in Orange County, San Diego and Sacramento.
