Sundt Completes Gila River Bridge Replacement

WINKELAMN, Ariz. (May 18, 2021) – Sundt Construction, Inc., recently completed the Gila River Bridge replacement project on State Route 77 south of Winkelman, Arizona.

“The completion of this bridge is essential to the community,” said Sundt Project Manager Brady Helland. “With it being a major access point to mining centers, it was critical to provide them safe daily access.”

The design-bid-build project replaced a 1960s-era bridge with a new six-span concrete structure that is stronger, wider and safer. The project team removed the existing six-span steel girder bridge and constructed a new six-span bridge using a cast-in-place concrete deck. The work also included placing new asphaltic concrete and asphaltic concrete friction course, pavement markings, and guardrail.

Sundt has been building critical infrastructure across Arizona for more than 90 years. Headquartered in Tempe, the company continually ranks in the top five of ENR Southwest’s Top Contractors. Sundt’s current work in the Valley includes expansions for Gila River Hotels & Casinos – Wild Horse Pass and the Royal Oaks Community. Recently, the company completed the Canopy by Hilton Tempe and the award-winning Gilbert Road Light Rail Extension.
