Sundt El Paso Completes Blue Flame Housing Renovation

 |  Building, Press Release

EL PASO, Texas (May 21, 2020) – Sundt Construction, Inc. recently celebrated the completion of the housing segment of its Blue Flame renovation project, a Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) residential community in downtown. Residents moved into the apartments this month.

“Bringing to life Blue Flame and preserving its history has been a big accomplishment for our team,” said Joseph Riccillo, project director and El Paso region leader. “These new affordable housing units are going to greatly improve people’s quality of life and enhance the downtown area.”

The project includes the complete renovation of the iconic 18-story former home of El Paso Natural Gas. The completion of the 120 affordable apartments marks a significant milestone for the project. New construction includes ground-level retail spaces. The team is continuing to work on improvements to leased office spaces on floors 14-16 and a community room with an elevated balcony on the 17th floor.

The renovation of Blue Flame is part of HACEP’s initiative to revitalize all affordable housing communities in its portfolio throughout the Borderland, using funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration program. This is one of Sundt’s eight projects with HACEP. Teams are currently working on renovating Tays and Sherman properties and recently completed work at the Father Pinto and Chelsea properties.

Over the past 10 years, Sundt has completed over a billion dollars in project work in the El Paso region. Currently the company is in the process of building Phase 1 of Eastside Regional Park, part of the city’s Quality of Life bond measure. Sundt has offices in El Paso, Fort Worth, Irving and San Antonio and has completed over $3 billion dollars of work throughout the Lone Star state.
