Celebrating Veterans Day at the Cypress College Veterans Resource Center Jobsite

In Cypress, California Sundt is building a state-of-the-art Veterans Resource Center (VRC) that will serve student veterans on the campus of Cypress College, helping them transition from active military service to civilian life. The larger project also includes a three-story, 106,000-square-foot Science, Engineering and Math (SEM) Building. Cypress’s new VRC will be the centerpiece of its Veterans Education Resource Complex, featuring a tribute garden, veterans memorial bridge and outdoor event plaza. The project also involves renovation of the existing Student Activities Center.

“We’re about halfway finished with the memorial bridge, which is one of several features that will make this complex stand out,” said Sundt Project Safety Manager Chris Fairbanks. “With the VRC’s curtain wall and the concrete work going in, as well as certain aesthetic features, this building will be really appealing to the eye—in addition to all the practical benefits it will provide these students.”

Sundt Project Safety Manager Chris Fairbanks, a third-generation U.S. Navy veteran himself, knows the value this project will bring to the student veteran experience at Cypress College.

“They’ll have access to admissions and financial aid, and all the related services to help them make their way through the transition process,” said Fairbanks. Veteran’s benefits, counseling, success and retention services, career development and advising services will also be housed in the VRC, along with places to socialize with friends and to study.

The VRC is slated to complete in fall of 2020 and is one of multiple veteran-focused projects that Sundt’s Building Group has had the privilege to construct. “Building a center that helps those who have bravely served our country is something that gives our team great pride,” said Robert Stokes, Vice President and Irvine Regional Director for Sundt’s Building Group, California District. Furthermore, Sundt is a proud employer and supporter of military veterans and their spouses, and we value our partnerships with veteran-owned businesses. Today and all other days, to those served and sacrificed: we extend our deepest gratitude.
