SAN ANTONIO (March 20, 2014) – Sundt Construction, Inc. (www.sundt.com) was honored during the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America 2015 Alliant Build America Awards on March 19 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sundt won the Highway and Transportation Renovation category for its work on the West 7th Street Bridge in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Alliant Build America Awards honor AGC members that build the nation’s most impressive construction projects. Construction industry leaders are recognized for excellence in state-of-the-art advancement, project management, innovation, sustainability, client services, community contributions, safety and meeting the challenges of a difficult job.

“This prestigious award reflects Sundt’s hard work and commitment to building better communities,” Senior Vice President and Texas District Manager John Carlson said. “We took all the necessary steps to deliver the project safely and efficiently so the people of Fort Worth could utilize this vital passageway as soon as possible.”

The West 7th Street Bridge is the first of its kind in Texas built with precast, post-tensioned arches. The 12 arches on the bridge were built offsite and moved into place. Each arch is 163-feet long and weighs more than 300 tons. Despite inclement weather, Sundt was able to complete the project one month ahead of schedule.

Sundt has a history of more than 45 years and $1.5 billion of project work throughout the Lone Star State. Among the general contractor’s notable Texas projects are Warrior in Transition Barracks at Fort Bliss, Fort Sam Houston and Fort Hood; Reunion Tower, Dallas; Legacy Town Centers, Plano; work at Austin Bergstrom International Airport; the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) 911 Dispatch Center, San Antonio; and the Career and Technology Education (CATE) building at Brackenridge High School, San Antonio.
