The Warren Hall replacement building will be complete in August 2015.

A year ago, 463 pounds of explosives safely brought down Warren Hall, a 13-story building on the campus of California State University, East Bay in Hayward. Nearby stands the nearly completed concrete core for the five-story, 66,000-square-foot replacement building.

The original Warren Hall, constructed in 1971, was demolished by implosion last year as part of Sundt’s $40 million project.

When complete in August 2015, the new state-of-the-art, LEED Silver building will contain offices and other administrative support space. It will be an attractive landmark with features including metal ceilings, stainless steel wall panels and terrazzo flooring. The precast concrete/composite metal panel structure will also meet current seismic codes, unlike its predecessor building, which was constructed in 1971. (See a short time-lapse video of the implosion here.)

Sundt’s project team for this $40 million education construction project has been working overtime and Saturdays to achieve an important milestone: the start of steel erection on August 20.
