Sundt To Donate $5K To Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument

 |  Press Release

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 26, 2014) Sundt is donating $5,000 to the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument. The monument Committee commissioned New Mexico artist Duke Sundt to create the bronze sculpture. He is a relative of the company’s founder, M.M. Sundt.

“The Texas Vietnam Veterans Monument is long overdue as recognition and a ‘welcome home’ to Texans who served in the American Armed Forces in Vietnam. It is a permanent memorial to the 3,417 Texans who died or are unaccounted for in the Vietnam War,” Monument Committee Chairman Robert Floyd said.

The monument, which is scheduled for dedication Saturday, March 29, will stand as an everlasting reminder of the 105 Texas men who answered the nation’s call to serve and remain Missing in Action in Vietnam. The Monument also honors the 17 native Texans who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor, as well as every Texan who fought and served the United States with courage during the Vietnam War.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument,” Senior Vice President and Texas District Manager John Carlson said. “The men and women who served our country during that time are close to our hearts, as is this monument.”

Sundt has a history of more than 40 years and $1 billion of project work throughout the Lone Star State. Among the general contractor’s notable Texas projects are Warrior in Transition Barracks at Fort Bliss, Fort Sam Houston and Fort Hood; Reunion Tower, Dallas; Wichita Falls Airport Terminal, Wichita Falls; 7th Street Bridge, Fort Worth; the work at Austin Bergstrom International Airport; and the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) 911 Dispatch Center, San Antonio.
