Since 2001, a group of dedicated Sundt employees and the Sundt Foundation together have raised more than $1.2 million to help find a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It just goes to show how much can be accomplished with a little hard work, determination … and fun.

The fun comes in the form of the Mike Gaines Charitable Fundraising Events, created to honor longtime Sundt employee Mike Gaines, who died of ALS in 2002. The annual events— golf tournaments in Tucson, Phoenix, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Antonio, and a trap shoot in Tucson—raise money for organizations that support research to treat and cure ALS, such as the ALS Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

The Mike Gaines Charitable Fundraising Events wouldn’t be nearly as successful without our generous sponsors. The companies on the banner above supported the event in San Antonio.

The golf tournament in San Antonio took place last week, and along with the usual good time came an added surprise: retired San Antonio Spurs and University of Arizona basketball player Sean Elliott joined one of the teams. Thanks to Sean and the other players who participated, the event raised $22,700 for the local MDA chapter, bringing the total raised to date for ALS research to $1,240,129.
