Sundt Foundation Awards $30,250 to Local Nonprofits

TUCSON, Ariz. (Sept. 23, 2013) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Tucson employees have selected 14 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $30,250 this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $5 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here’s a closer look at the Tucson organizations that recently received funding.

$2,500 Grant Recipients (4)
Arizona’s Children Association will use the funds to support Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault’s crisis intervention and trauma-centered therapy services, which are provided in a supportive environment where survivors learn coping and resiliency skills.

San Miguel High School will use the grant money to support its library and research center by providing sufficient resources, both print and online, that are unavailable to students outside of high school.

Arizona Blind & Deaf Children’s Foundation, Inc. will use the funds to continue supporting blind and deaf children with collaborative programs in art, fitness, literacy and life skills.

Shyann Kindness Project will use the funds to purchase books, toys, school supplies and hygiene items for children at Kindness Gift Giving events held in low-income schools, shelters, group homes, homeless feeding programs, clinics for children with special needs and hospital emergency rooms.

$2,000 Grant Recipients (8)
First Book-Tucson will use the grant money to continue providing children of low-income and military families, as well as disabled children, with access to an ongoing supply of new books and educational resources.

Literacy Connects will use the funds to provide diverse literacy and arts programs that help people of all ages reach their personal potential through literacy and creative expression.

The 3000 Club will use the grant money to help cover the fuel costs of distributing fresh fruits and vegetables to needy families throughout Arizona.

Oasis Institute-Tucson OASIS will use the funds to sustain the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring program in Tucson, which addresses the critical need for individual K-5 literacy training and offers service opportunities to older adults in Tucson.

Gap Ministry will use the grant money to provide backpacks and supplies to low-income elementary students in Amphitheater, Flowing Wells and Tucson Unified school districts.

Team Up For Tucson will use the funds to increase the number of toys, clothing, bikes, sports equipment, shoes, jackets and hygiene items purchased and provided to Tucson’s children in need.

Mobile Meals of Tucson will use the funds to help subsidize the cost and delivery of hospital-prepared meals for homebound adults who cannot afford the entire cost of their meals.

Turn Your Life Around, Inc. will use the grant money to sustain its Recovery Support and Empowerment program, which assists homeless men and women in recovery to regain a conventional standard of living.

Fountain of Life Lutheran Church (Haven Totes) will use the funds to provide children of low-income families with backpacks filled with nutritious food.

Aviva Children’s Services will use the funds to complete Life Books—scrapbook-style biographies that tell a child’s story in a sensitive, accurate and age-appropriate way—for foster children having trouble establishing a positive sense of identity.

$1,250 Grant Recipient
Good Neighbor Ventures will use the grant money to implement a 10-week job readiness program serving 25 youth in one of its partnering neighborhoods.
