Sundt Foundation Awards $47,789 to Local Nonprofits

PHOENIX (Sept. 23, 2013) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Phoenix employees have selected 16 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $47,789 this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $5 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here’s a closer look at the Phoenix organizations that recently received funding.

$6,000 Grant Recipient
Hope & A Future will use the funds to provide care for abused and neglected children in the Arizona foster care system.

$5,000 Grant Recipient
Save the Family Foundation of Arizona will use the grant money to support youth services for children of homeless and low-income families by providing education opportunities.

$4,789 Grant Recipient
Mathew’s Crossing Food Bank will use the funds to help provide food assistance to disadvantaged children and adults throughout the Phoenix East Valley.

About Care will use the funds to provide compassionate and caring support services for the elderly and physically challenged homebound residents of Chandler and Gilbert.

The Sojourner Center will provide a safe and nurturing environment, as well as counseling and education, for families affected by domestic violence.

Homeward Bound will use the funds toward ensuring 400 homeless children receive the basic necessities to survive, as well as the services and programs they need to thrive.

A Stepping Stone Foundation will use the funds to provide stepping stones of success for children and their families who have limited opportunities.

Glendale/Peoria Family YMCA will use the grant money to help defray membership costs and provide healthy snacks for disadvantaged youth, as well as provide supplies and equipment for the center.

$2,500 Grant Recipients (4)
Assistance League of Phoenix will use the grant money to provide children living in poverty with a new pair of athletic shoes.

Tempe Community Action Agency will provide hot, nutritious meals to those at risk of hunger and isolation within the community.

Best Buddies International, Inc. will use the funds to help with salary and benefits costs for three employees who oversee 2,000 students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The organization matches IDD students with peers who do not have IDD, helping them to develop one-to-one friendships.

Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation will use the funds from the grant to provide tutoring and other educational support for children in foster care from the Phoenix and Tucson areas.

Neighborhood Ministries will use the funds to support its Kids Life program, which improves the lives of disadvantaged children by providing a safe and supportive place where children are introduced to poverty-breaking opportunities.

$1,500 Grant Recipient
Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA will use the funds to bring the Y’s signature Las Artes program downtown to serve disadvantaged youth ages 16-21 struggling to overcome difficult circumstances.

Spina Bifida Association of Arizona will use the grant money to provide equipment and supplies needed for its Families for Fitness Concept Arenas. The arenas help children with Spina Bifida and their families deal with the physical challenges of growing up with the condition.

Pepped Up, Inc. will use the funds to provide children fighting deadly forms of childhood cancer with portable electronic devices, which serve as diversion therapy, assist in maintaining academic studies and provide a much-needed mental break from long hours in the hospital.
