Ninth Annual MIke Gaines Charity Golf Tournament Raises $23,200 In San Diego

 |  Press Release

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 26, 2013) – The Sundt Foundation, a charitable organization funded by Sundt Construction, Inc. and its employees, raised $23,200 for the local chapter of the ALS Association earlier this month at the ninth annual Mike Gaines Charity Golf Tournament. Held at the Riverwalk Golf Club in San Diego, the event honors long-time Sundt employee Mike Gaines, who passed away in 2002 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neuromuscular disease.

“We are continually humbled by the ongoing community support we receive for this incredible cause each year,” said Sundt Vice President Business Development Teri Jones. “The golf tournament is a tangible way for people to contribute to research and other advances against this terrible disease.”

Friends of Gaines launched the inaugural tournament in 2001, shortly after he was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. His legacy lives on through the Mike Gaines Charitable Fundraising Events, which are held annually in San Diego, Sacramento, Phoenix, Tucson and San Antonio. Over the years, Sundt Construction and the Sundt Foundation have hosted more than 30 of these events, raising more than $1 million in donations for ALS research programs.     The Sundt Foundation has been raising funds for San Diego-based non-profit organizations since 1999. To date, it has contributed nearly $500,000 to organizations in the San Diego area that assist children and families in need. Non-profit organizations wishing to be considered for funding must first complete and submit a Sundt Foundation Grant Application on line by going to www.sundtfoundation.org.
