Sundt and joint venture partner Vastco, Inc., are preparing to pour the deck for a large, post-tensioned box girder concrete bridge that is being constructed over live traffic at the Cordes Junction Traffic Interchange reconstruction project in Arizona. The structure is one of seven new bridges the team is building as part of the $51 million heavy civil project, located at Interstate 17 and State Route 69, about 65 miles north of downtown Phoenix.

The 50-year-old interchange is used by approximately 40,000 vehicles per day, most of which are just passing through on their way to other destinations in northern Arizona. In order to alleviate congestion and improve safety, two separate interchanges are being constructed – one for through traffic and one for locals. The Construction Manager at Risk project also involves realigning, widening and paving several associated streets. It is scheduled for completion next summer.
